Jatin is from India and is studying Grad dip in Construction (Level 6) Quantity Surveying at Weltec, Wellington.

Here are Jatin's thoughts for people interested in Civil Engineering courses in New Zealand.

What should students know before starting Grad dip in Construction (Level 6) Quantity Surveying?

Jatin: Before starting the program, you should have good computer knowledge, English, Mathematics and drawing skills. Good understanding of these subjects/topics help you a lot when you are studying Quantity Surveying in New Zealand.

Who should choose to study a Grad Diploma in Construction?

Jatin: If someone is exploring this study and has some background in Construction such as qualification or experience, it will be a great match. However, if students do not have any previous qualification or experience but are good in English, Maths, accounting or digital technologies, the college teaches you all aspects.

Previous Qualifications -

-          Academic background should be commerce or any engineering level.

-          Civil Engineers from India must choose the Graduate Diploma in Construction – Quantity Surveying programme as you get to learn a lot about tendering, costing and estimation.

What have you learnt so far?

Jatin: Currently I know how to measure a house, I know how to check ground condition, health and safety in industry, and how to do architecture drawing. I see myself as a quantity surveyor, contractor or site engineer.

Any advice for students?

Jatin: The program requires you to study well and is enjoyable too as you learn a lot of new things.
