To work as a teacher in New Zealand, you must be registered and hold a current practising certificate issued by the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Graduate Diploma in Teaching
  • Popular among overseas students with a Bachelor of Education or equivalent and unverifiable teaching experience.
  • Options: Early Childhood, Primary, or Secondary Teaching.
Tier 1 (Straight to Residence):
  • Includes roles such as:

    • Secondary School Teachers
      • Must hold one of the following qualifications (overseas or NZQA-assessed equivalent):
        • Bachelor of Education
        • Bachelor of Education (Early Childhood/Technology)
        • Bachelor of Teaching (or Early Childhood Education)
      • Requires NZ Teaching Council registration and a provisional practicing certificate
Tier 2 (Work to Residence):
  • Includes roles such as:

    • School Principal
    • Kaiako Kura Kaupapa Māori (Māori-medium Primary School Teacher)
    • Special Needs and Specialist Teachers, e.g.:
      • Hearing or Sight Impaired Teachers
      • Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) in primary, intermediate, or secondary schools
    • Early Childhood (Pre-primary) Teacher (registered)
  • Requirements::

    • NZ Teaching Council registration
    • A provisional practicing certificate
    • Qualifications: Same as Tier 1 roles

    Qualification and Experience

    If you have a Bachelor in Education degree (B.Ed.) in India with experience as a teacher, you can contact us to discuss a relevant study program for you in teaching. The Graduate Diploma in Teaching qualification is a one-year program.
